AC Milan line up January swoop for Memphis Depay
Italian giants AC Milan are weighing up a £24 million January move for struggling Manchester United winger Memphis Depay, according to reports in Italy.
Calcio Mercato Web is reporting that AC Milan are set to make a £24 million swoop for Dutch winger Memphis Depay, who has been unable to hold down a regular starting role for Manchester United since joining the Old Trafford club in the summer of 2015.
The Rossoneri have recently been taken over by Chinese investors, with the new regime promising to invest €100 million in the playing squad.
But the takeover was completed after the transfer window had already closed, so they were unable to spend the money available to them.
So that could mean that the seven time champions of Europe will be ready to splash the cash when the transfer market re-opens on January, and Depay is thought to be top of their wish-list.
Depay joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, having led the Dutch side to the Eredivisie title, and finished as the Dutch top flight’s top goal scorer.
Under compatriot Louis van Gaal, Depay was expected to make a significant impact in Manchester, but the 22-year-old appears to lack confidence and has rarely performed to his full potential for the Red Devils.
Depay is yet to start a Premier League game under new manager Jose Mourinho.
