Ferdinand: Rashford is the best striker in the country

Rashford should be starting for England, says Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford is currently the best striker in the country, and should be a regular starter for club and country, according to reports.

The Mirror is reporting that former Manchester United and West Ham united defender Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Marcus Rashford is the best striker in the country right now, and that the 18-year-old should be made a first choice starter for England.

Rashford only made his professional debut in February in a Europa League tie, but the teenager bagged a brace on that occasion and was given the chance to start in the Premier League against Arsenal at Old Trafford just three days later.

The youngster again took his opportunity by bagging a double in a 302 victory for the Red Devils.

He has since gone on to bag the winning goal in the Manchester derby at the Etihad last season, as well as scoring just two minuted into his England debut in a friendly against Australia in the build up to the UEFA European Championship.

Rashford was selected for Roy Hodgson’s 23 man Euro 2016, but was underused in the tournament in France, only featuring twice as a late substitute.

But Rashford has continued his fine form into the new campaign and has forced his way into new United manager Jose Mourinho’s team and has scored four goals from seven appearances so far this season.

Rashford was not selected for the first senior England squad of the season however, and was instead named among the under-21s. But Rashford proved that he has already outgrown that level by bagging a hat-trick for Gareth Southgate’s men against Norway.
