Arsenal engage in Ozil contract talks amid Real Madrid link

Arsenal step up contract talks with Ozil

Arsenal are apparently in advanced negotiations with midfielder Mesut Ozil over a new contract. The German international has less than two years left on his present deal.

German outlet Bild claims that the World Cup winner is mulling over a sensational return to Real Madrid, and this has urged the Gunners' hierarchy to speed up discussions over a contract extension.

Ozil, 27, is currently in the prime of his career, and the North London outfit are willing to offer him a five-year deal which would see him become the club's highest-ever paid player on wages of around £200,000-a-week.

The playmaker spent three seasons with Los Blancos between 2010 and 2013 before he headed to the Emirates on a club-record £42.5m fee. He has since racked over 120 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.

Fellow teammate Alexis Sanchez is also expected to resolve in the near future as Arsene Wenger looks to lift the Premier League title in what is most likely his last season at Arsenal.
