Chelsea favourites to land Stefan di Vrij

Chelsea have been tipped to secure the services of Stefan di Vrij when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. The Netherlands international is expected to pen a fresh contract at Lazio, but this will not deter the Blues' pursuit of his services.

Blues boss Antonio Conte had sought a late bid for the central defender in the summer, but Lazio were reluctant to hold negotiations.

Italian source Messaggero says the West London giants have been given a boost in the chase for the player with Lazio likely to place an affordable £30.8m release clause in the contract extension.

The Blues did manage to sign the likes of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso to boost the defensive ranks, but Conte is on the search for a youthful option, who could guide the side in the long-term.

De Vrij missed a vast majority of last season through injury, but he still remains one of Europe's most-sought after defenders.
