Man Utd eyeing Monaco midfielder
Manchester United manager is a big admirer of AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko who could be available for around €25 million, according to reports.
French sports magazine Le10Sport is reporting that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ‘in love’ with AS Monaco’s 22-year-old defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, and they believe that the Frenchman could be available for a price in the region of €25 million.
United spent around £150 million on incomings during the summer, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic being brought in, as well as the world record breaking £89 million move for Paul Pogba.
But the Red Devils still appear to lack a dedicated defensive midfielder to shield the back line and help get the best out of Pogba.
Bastian Schweinsteiger has been banished to the reserves; Morgan Schneiderlin appears out of favour with Mourinho; Michael Carrick, at 35, is nearing the end of his career; and Marouane Fellaini has shown himself to be unsuited to a deep midfield role.
So if United are to dip into the transfer market when it re-opens in January, a move for a defensive midfielder would be no surprise.
And Bakayoko would fit the bill. The France under 21 international joined Monaco from Rennes in 2014 and has been outstanding so far this season, partnering Fabinho in the centre of Leonardo Jardim’s midfield.
