Sunderland to rival Serie A trio for Aleix Vidal

Sunderland are weighing up a surprise move for Barcelona full-back Aleix Vidal, according to reports in Spain. The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou, and is set to demand a transfer in the New Year.

Vidal has struggled to earn himself a regular start at the La Liga champions despite seeing the exit of Dani Alves (Juventus) over the summer.

Sergi Samper has been the preferred option to fulfill the right-back duties this season with Samuel Umtiti being a more than decent back-up, and this has urged Vidal to assess his position.

The Black Cats did manage to recruit the likes of Javier Manquillo and Jason Denayer on temporary deals this summer, but David Moyes still sees the need for an experienced head in the right side of the backline.

Italian trio AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli are among the other clubs in the running to land the £10m-rated defender.
