Man Utd to rival Arsenal for Jose Gimenez
Manchester United will offer stiff competition to Arsenal in the pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez. The Uruguayan has caught the eye of the Red Devils while scouting Antoine Griezmann.
Gimenez, who is still recovering from a thigh injury, has been more of a Cup player for Atleti in recent seasons.
Spanish sources report that Jose Mourinho has earmarked the player as a possible target for the New Year as he bids to strengthen the side further for a Premier League challenge.
United scouts had been keeping a close watch on long-term target Griezmann last month, and it was therein they were impressed by the showing of Gimenez.
The 21-year-old is also on the radar of the Gunners after they missed out on his services in the summer transfer window.
Atleti value their asset in excess of £45m, and there could be a bidding battle to decide where the player's future lies.
