Marco Verratti to Chelsea?

Blues eye record swoop for Verratti

Chelsea have reportedly joined Inter Milan in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti. The Italy international is upset with his present situation at the French capital.

The 24-year-old has been severely criticised for his performances by the French media, and this has urged him to assess his options for the New Year.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keeping a close eye on the player's status, and will jump at the chance of landing his services in the January transfer window.

The Blues will have to lodge a club-record sum of around £58m if they are to prise the Italian playmaker from Parc des Princes this winter.

Should the deal go through, the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Mikel John Obi could head through the exit door with the latter's contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Verratti, who only penned a new five-year deal in August, has failed to come to terms with a slightly advanced role under coach Unai Emery this season.
