Chelsea favourites to beat Man Utd to Benfica ace

Premier League leaders Chelsea are reportedly in the front seat to sign Manchester United target Nelson Semedo. The full-back was linked with a proposed move to Old Trafford earlier in the month.

Jose Mourinho's side have been linked with Benfica duo Victor Lindelof and Nelson Semedo during the winter transfer window but it appears that neither deal is anywhere near close to completion.

Portuguese outlet A Bola suggests that the Blues have joined the pursuit for the Benfica right-back as they seek to add more options to his star-studded squad.

Semedo is an attacking right-back by nature, and he could offer stiff competition to Victor Moses at right wing-back - a position which the Nigerian has made his own this season.

Chelsea are also expecting the departure of veteran defender Branislav Ivanovic amid reported interest from league rivals Everton.
