Man City to sign long-time Arsenal target?

Premier League giants Manchester City are prepared to trigger the buy-out clause in the contract of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Portugal international has been linked with a whole host of English clubs in recent season with Arsenal in particular holding a keen interest in the anchorman.

A report from The People reports that the Citizens are willing to bring the Euro 2016 winner to the Etihad with manager Pep Guardiola keen on reinforcing his midfield options for next season.

Both Yaya Toure and Fernando are in the final four months of their contracts, and Pep could let them go to recruit a couple of younger options.

Carvalho has always stated his desire to lift the Primeira Liga title before leaving Sporting, but it appears that he is now resigned to leaving the club to attain more success.

Pep's brother currently represents the holding midfielder, and this makes Manchester City favourites to activate his £34m buy-out clause.
