Lionel Messi will pen fresh Barca deal - Roberto Fernandez
Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez insists he has no doubts that Lionel Messi will pen a contract extension beyond next season.
The Argentina international has been in contract negotiations with the Spanish champions since the turn of the year, and the delay has linked him with a potential move to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, who could cough up a world-record sum for his signature.
Messi has yet to formally agree terms over a fresh contract, but Fernandez is confident that the four-time Ballon d'Or winner will commit his future as he is 'happy in Barcelona'.
"Messi will renew," he told Cadena SER. "I have always said Leo is happy in Barcelona. He is very happy here, he is in a magnificent team. I have no doubt that he will renew."
Fernandez also revealed that long-term servant Andres Iniesta will stay put at Camp Nou despite talks over a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.
Barcelona are currently second in the Spanish La Liga, two points behind leaders Real Madrid, who have an extra game to play.
