Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign young Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin this summer.

The Citizens are expected to reinforce their full-back positions during the off-season with the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov all due to be released at the expiry of their contracts.

Martin, 19, has impressed in his debut campaign for the Catalonia-based club, who are currently placed ninth in the Spanish La Liga.

According to The Sun, the Citizens will seek to lure the young prospect to the Etihad during the summer transfer window despite the player having inked a new extension in January.

Martin penned a new five-year deal at Espanyol on a £26m release clause which could further rise to £35m at the end of the year.

European champions Real Madrid also have an eye on the talented youngster, who is being seen as a potential replacement for Fabio Coentrao to play backup to Marcelo for the left-back role.
