Atletico have no security over Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann news

Griezmann could leave Atletico in the summer

Despite Antoine Griezmann appearing to look like he will stay at Atletico Madrid next season, the club fear that he may leave the Vicente Calderon because of the £86 million buy out clause in his contract.

Griezmann has developed into a star for club and country in recent times, and his fine performances have attracted attention from some of Europe's top clubs. In January, it looked like the Frenchman was set to join Manchester United, so that he could follow in the footsteps of his idol David Beckham. Shortly after however, rumours emerged that Griezmann had become disenchanted with the move, and was set to stay in Madrid.

Today's edition of The Sun explains that despite this apparent u-turn, manager Diego Simeone fears that he may lose his star man due to the buy out clause that is present in his contract. Simeone, who has lost other star players such as Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao in his time at the club, says that "there is no security" when it comes to Griezmann, and if a club is willing to pay the £86 million, there's not much he can do.

Simeone also revealed that Griezmann agreed to stay at the club under one condition, that Simeone himself stayed with the Madrid side. With such a clear bond between the two, Simeone will be hoping that will be enough to keep hold of his key player.
