Arsenal eyeing bid for Leicester star
Premier League giants Arsenal are planning an approach for Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel with manager Arsene Wenger due to extend his contract beyond the summer.
The Denmark international has been by far the most in-form player for the Foxes in what has turned out to be a dismal title defence for the club.
Schmeichel has particularly impressed in the Champions League where his two penalty saves against Sevilla guaranteed the Foxes' passage to the quarter-finals via 3-2 aggregate scoreline.
According to The Mirror, the former Manchester City graduate has emerged as a surprise transfer option for the north London giants ahead of the summer transfer window.
Wenger's future has been put into question over the past couple of weeks, but the latest speculation suggests that the Frenchman could stay at the Emirates for at least another season.
Petr Cech has made a number of notable errors during the course of the campaign, but it is understood that Schmeichel could be a potential replacement for David Ospina, who has grown frustrated of his lack of playing time for most of the campaign.
Ospina has been the Cup specialist for the Gunners this campaign, and he is likely to have an extended spell until the end of the season with Cech sidelined with a calf problem.
