Jose Mourinho holds talks with Real Madrid star
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly been in close contact with Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane in an attempt to lure him to Old Trafford in the summer.
Speculation last week suggested that the Special One could demand both Alvaro Morata and Raphael Varane in a potential deal which could see David de Gea move the other way.
However, according to Don Balon, the 54-year-old has other thoughts in mind and could move for the France international regardless of Los Blancos' interest in De Gea.
Varane joined the European champions from Lens while Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu, and the two has since held a good relationship despite the latter switching clubs.
With Real Madrid understood to be in the pursuit of Juventus' Leonardo Bonucci, Varane could be eyeing a fresh challenge with United likely to be his preferred destination irrespective of their Champions League status.
The central defender has managed to start 20 La Liga outings for Real Madrid this season but a hamstring niggle has restricted his appearance in recent weeks.
