Marco Asensio wants recognition for his breakout performances throughout the season and is demanding Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to bump up his current contract.

Asensio has been a revelation for Los Blancos this season. The 21-year-old scored 10 goals in 38 appearances, including goals in the quarter-final and final of the Champions League as he became a key component in the club's La Liga and European Cup double.

His performances have gained the interest of Europe's top clubs. Chelsea were believed to be interested in Madrid including Asensio in a player-plus-cash deal for Eden Hazard, but manager Zinedine Zidane was quick to reject it.

However, Asensio himself is now demanding contractual improvements following his string of impressive performances, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon. Should Madrid fail to meet his contractual needs, the player will very likely join Manchester United in the summer, with Jose Mourinho already planning a mega-money offer for the 21-year-old.

Mourinho has turned to Asensio after number one target Antoine Griezmann pledged his future to Atletico Madrid following the club's failed appeal against their transfer ban. The Portuguese is believed to have scouted Asensio many times and is certain the player will be a success at Old Trafford.

Premier League rivals Arsenal and Italian club Roma are also interested in the Spaniard and will likely start a bidding war with Manchester United should Asensio express his desire to leave the Bernabeu.
