Liverpool desperate to stop Oxs new contract

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored in England's 2-2 draw with Scotland on Saturday

Liverpool are ready to up their bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a last ditch attempt to stop the England international from signing a new contract with Arsenal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is about to enter the final year of his current contract with The Gunners, but manager Arsene Wenger is hoping that he can persuade the England midfielder to extend his stay with the club.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that he needed to sign a number of players this summer if they were to compete for the Premier League next season and Chamberlain is the latest player to be linked with the club.

In an attempt to deter clubs from bidding for their player, Arsenal have valued the 23-year-old at £40 million. Although that is more than they were initially willing to pay, The Express reports that Jurgen Klopp is willing to match that figure in order to complete a deal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain received more playing time last season, but it was not in his preferred position, He prefers to play in the centre of midfield, but found himself being deployed at right wingback. A promise of playing in his preferred position may make him consider moving to a new club.
