La Liga new boys Girona eyeing shock deal for two ex-Barcelona players
Girona, who will be playing in the La Liga for the first time in their history next season, want to sign ex-Barcelona players Bojan Krkic and Munir El Haddadi.
Girona's promotion from the Spanish second division was one of the best stories in Europe last season. The Catalan club were sold for just a million euros in 2012 due to heavy debts. Five years on, the small club with a stadium capacity of less than 10,000, finally clinched promotion to the La Liga for the first time in their 87-year history.
Girona are determined to compete at the highest level and are now eyeing a shock deal to bring two former Barcelona players to the club - Bojan Krkic and Munir El Haddadi.
Bojan made his debut for Barcelona in 2007 and was even thought to be superior to Lionel Messi as he scored an impressive 12 goals in his debut season. However, by 2011, his form had dropped and opportunities at the Camp Nou were hard to come by. After underwhelming loan moves to Ajax and AC Milan, the 26-year-old now plays for Stoke City in the Premier League.
Munir started his Barcelona career in 2014 and similar to Bojan, had a good first couple of seasons. However, Barcelona eventually loaned him out to Valencia this past season where he had a terrible campaign as Valencia finished a lowly 12th.
Although the pair failed at Barcelona, acquiring their services will still be an extremely smart piece of business by Girona as they aim to leave an impact in their first ever season in the Spanish top-flight.
