Arsenal consider Smalling move
As Manchester United assemble their squad ahead of the new Premier League season, England defender Chris Smalling faces an uncertain future with the club. Reports today are suggesting that Arsenal could make a shock move for the 27-year-old.
The Red Devils are set to complete the transfer of defender Victor Lindelof, meaning that Chris Smalling may be moved on to make space for the Swedish centre back.
Smalling's relationship with manager Jose Mourinho has been questioned in recent months, with the England's defenders commitment and determination to return from injury doubted by Mourinho.
Several clubs have been linked with a move for Smalling, but SunSport is now suggesting that Arsene Wenger is showing interest in signing him for Arsenal.
Wenger has previously attempted to sign Smalling, during his Fulham days, before Smalling opted for a move to Old Trafford instead. Arsenal need to strengthen considerably this summer and Wenger would like to add Smalling's experience to his defence.
Whether Jose Mourinho is willing to sell to Arsenal is yet to be seen, but he may feel that it is a risk that he is willing to take in order to make room for new arrivals this summer.
