Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is prepared to demand funds to spend in the January transfer window amid speculation linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 54-year-old has spent nearly £300m during his 18 month spell with United where he has recruited seven players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.

A recent report from BBC Sport suggested that Mourinho may have to offload some of his fringe players in the New Year before he gets the opportunity to bolster his squad further.

However, according to The Mirror, the Portuguese tactician is ready to challenge the club's hierarchy by making the most of his speculated link with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mourinho's representative Jorge Mendes is understood to have recently made contact with the French outfit, and Mourinho is looking to use it as a bargaining chip, although United are unlikely to be pressurised.

The self-proclaimed Special One helped United to EFL Cup and Europa League success during his first season incharge, and the onus is now on ending the club's three-year Premier League title drought.

Manchester United are currently second in the league standings with 23 points, eight behind leaders Manchester City, who look good value to secure the English crown.
