Whilst Stoke City have struggled in the Premier League this season, with The Potters facing relegation to the Championship, Xherdan Shaqiri continues to show that he has great ability. If his current team go down, it is a certainty that the Swiss international will leave the club, with one Premier League club in particular already showing interest.

Mark Hughes has recently returned to football management as the boss of another struggling Premier League club, Southampton, his first role since being dismissed by Stoke earlier in the season.

The Saints' focus right now is fully on remaining in the Premier League, where they currently sit in the relegation zone and just one place above Stoke. However, if Southampton do beat the drop and Stoke do not, Mark Hughes is already preparing a move for Shaqiri.

The Star reports today that Hughes wants to make a £20 million bid for the 26-year-old as soon as the transfer window opens and ahead of this summer's World Cup in Russia.

If Shaqiri is in the shop window, the World Cup is a perfect platform for him to showcase his talents and attract a big club, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan already on his CV. Stoke will also be hoping for that to happen if relegation is inevitable in order to drive their asking price up further.

Stoke City have some difficult fixtures coming up in the remainder of the Premier League campaign and will need the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri to be at their best if they are to secure their Premier League status.
