Allardyce sacked by Everton

Everton have decided to end their association with Sam Allardyce after just six months at the club. The 63-year-old helped the Toffees to a top-half finish to the season but this has not been sufficient to earn the trust of the hierarchy.

Allardyce's style of play has often been critcised by the Toffees supporters during different stages of games and the club have now confirmed that they have parted ways with Allardyce, 12 months prior to the expiry of his contract.

"Sam was brought in at a challenging time last season to provide us with some stability and we are grateful to him for doing that," chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale said on the club's official website.

"However, we have made the decision that, as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer and will be commencing this process immediately."

Marco Silva has been a long-term favourite for the Toffees' hierarchy but according to reports, they could neglect the Portuguese owing to their issues with Watford.

The Toffees face the possibility of a hefty fine alongside a points deduction after their inappropriate approach for Silva whilst he was in charge at Watford last year.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth's Eddie Howe has also been touted as a possible candidate for the Everton job, though it is unclear whether he has any intention of leaving the South Coast outfit.
