Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in signing Djibril Sidibe from AS Monaco. The Frenchman has been earmarked as a probable competitor for Antonio Valencia for the right-back spot.

United boss Jose Mourinho is understood to be planning to bolster the full-back positions for the summer and of late, Alex Sandro has been linked with a possible switch to the club.

However, according to Le10 Sport, the Red Devils are also looking into a deal for Sidibe, who is capable of plying his trade on either side of the central defenders.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman has featured mostly on the right side of the backline and he is being seen as a competitor to Valencia, who will have turned 33 by the start of next season.

Sidibe has notched 76 appearances over the past two seasons for Monaco and the Principality outfit are likely to demand at least £40m for the Frenchman, considering he has more than four years left on his existing deal.
