Chelsea agree terms with Antonio Contes successor

Sarri close to becoming Chelsea's next manager

Chelsea have reportedly finalised a general agreement with Maurizio Sarri, who is likely to replace manager Antonio Conte in the next few days.

Conte's position has remained uncertain since the club's fifth place finish in the top-flight and the Italian's exit is only on hold owing to his demands for a hefty £17.5m compensation package.

Nevertheless, the Blues appear to have agreed on terms with Sarri but they cannot make the move official until the 59-year-old has formally left Napoli, Sky Sports News reports.

The Naples outfit have already confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti will be replacing Sarri for the 2018/19 season and beyond but they are yet to release Sarri from his own contract.

As things stand, Sarri has a £7m release clause in his Napoli deal which only expires on May 31 and Chelsea could be forced to wait until then to finalise a formal agreement.
