Serie A midfielder set to undergo Arsenal medical

Uruguay international Lucas Torreira is set to undergo a medical with Arsenal after they reached an agreement over a £26m deal with Sampdoria.

The 22-year-old has been linked with the Gunners since the start of the month and Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that they have finalised a transfer sum with the Serie A club.

As such, Torreira is scheduled to have a Gunners medical in the coming days but it will be interesting to see whether the player would be allowed to do so with Uruguay presently in the round of 16 stage of the World Cup.

The South American nation picked up the perfect tally of nine points during the group stage of the World Cup and Torreira started in the final match versus Russia where he impressed.

Torreira, who has previously been linked with Napoli, has made 74 appearances for Sampdoria during his two seasons at the club. He has earned six caps with the national team to date.
