Manchester United made no attempt to sign Tottenham defender
Manchester United did not make any attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Sunday Mirror.
According to Tottenham, Jose Mourinho's side did not approach them about a move for Alderweireld or Danny Rose.
News have emerged that it was Spurs who contacted United to find out if they were interested in Alderweireld and Rose.
This is contrary to reports that United had made moves towards bringing the Belgian to Old Trafford.
The Sunday Mirror quotes a Tottenham source saying the following: “There was never any interest from United in either Alderweireld or Rose. So it wasn’t a case of us refusing to sell either player to them — they never spoke to us.”
During the transfer window in England, it was reported that the only thing stopping United from getting Alderweireld was Spurs' £55m price tag which was deemed to steep.
United were also interested in Leicester City's Harry Maguire, but the 2016 Premier League champions refused to sell.
