Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that he had blocked the club's attempt to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese superstar made himself available during the summer after spending nine glorious seasons with Real Madrid and this witnessed United constantly linked with his services.

However, ultimately, Juventus landed him on a club-record record deal from the European champions and Mourinho has now insisted that a move was never on the table for Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford.

"Cristiano was never on my table to say yes or no," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports following the Burnley win. "Cristiano to come to us, it was never on my table."

The Portuguese tactician had come under fire after United suffered back-to-back league defeats but he has managed to relieve some of the pressure after a 2-0 triumph over Burnley on the road.

Romelu Lukaku was the star performer on the day with his second and third goal of the season and this has lifted United into the top half of the standings before the first-team squad embarks on the international break.
