Toby Alderweireld speaks on summer transfer link to Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Toby Alderweireld has said that he never wanted a move away from the club during the last summer transfer window.

Alderweireld was linked with a move to Manchester United during the window, but a transfer was not completed before deadline day.

"Everyone was saying everywhere that I absolutely wanted to leave Tottenham. That’s not true," he said, MEN reports.

He added that he decided to fight for his place when he discovered that Spurs wanted to keep him during the summer.

The Belgian also revealed that playing for the first team again is a victory for him. He has played in three of Spurs' four opening Premier League games this term, including their 2-1 loss to Watford before the international break.

The Belgian international played six games for his country at the World Cup in Russia, helping them finish third.

Alderweireld is expected to feature for Mauricio Pochettino's side when they face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
