Ian Wright: Sanchez does not warrant a place in the Manchester United team

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has said that Alexis Sanchez does not warrant a place in the Manchester United team because of his poor performances so far.

The Chilean joined Jose Mourinho's side in January in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but since then, he has scored only three goals and provided six assists in 23 games.

Prior to his United move, he scored 80 goals for Arsenal and provided 41 assists in 166 games.

Wright also implied that he should not be in the United team with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford not playing regularly.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “He does not warrant a place in the team when you have Martial and Marcus Rashford waiting to play. You look at him at United: he’s not shackled, he’s got freedom. His form will have to kick in to justify a place.”

Wright also said that based on his current form, the former Barcelona man would have to take a pay cut should he leave United. According to reports, Sanchez is receiving a weekly wage in the excess of £500,000.
