Championship midfielder expected to join Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has revealed that he was '95 percent sure' he would be joining Tottenham Hotspur before the summer transfer deadline.
The 23-year-old was the standout performer for the Villains during the backend of the previous campaign and this saw Spurs register their interest amid Villa's financial concerns.
However, with the change of ownership, Villa were in a much comfortable position to reject offers below their valuation and ultimately Grealish had to stay put beyond closure of the summer transfer window.
Since then, the former England youth international has bagged a new long-term deal at the West Midlands outfit but he has now suggested that things may have been different during the summer.
He told The Telegraph: "At Hull, I was 95 percent sure it was going to be my last game. I waved to the fans when I got taken off as I thought I was going. They (Spurs) weren't willing to pay what Villa wanted at the time, but the new owners came in and they changed everything."
Grealish missed the beginning of the previous Championship campaign after sustaining a kidney damage but nothing of that kind has hampered him this term where he has started in each of the club's first nine league matches.
