Chelsea defender in line for new contract
Chelsea have reportedly opened contract discussions with David Luiz following his strong start to the campaign under new manager Maurizio Sarri.
The Brazil international was largely sidelined with injuries and poor form during Antonio Conte's final season in charge last term and this saw him make just 10 leagues appearances.
However, his fortunes have transformed with the arrival of Sarri at the helm and he has already started each of the club's opening seven league matches this campaign.
According to Evening Standard, talks are underway with the Brazil international regarding a contract extension with his existing deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.
However, his renewal could have ramifications for central defensive partner Gary Cahill with the Blues unlikely to offer fresh contracts to two players aged above 30 in the same position.
Chelsea have not lost a game in any competition since the Premier League campaign started and they are scheduled to host Hungarian side Videoton in the Europa League on Thursday night.
