Spanish star confirms contract talks with Chelsea

Spain international Marcos Alonso has confirmed that he is in advanced negotiations over a new contract with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.

The 27-year-old has been one of the club's most consistent performers since making the move from Fiorentina in September 2016 and he has already bagged one goal and two assists this campaign.

In a report covered by Marca, Alonso confirmed that the Blues are happy to offer him a new long-term contract despite more than two years remaining on his current deal with the club.

He added that the discussions are at an advanced stage and the contract extension could be announced by the end of the month, should things go as planned. 

"We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month - in the coming days," he said.

Alonso has been ever-present for the Blues in the Premier League this season having played every minute on the field. He has also featured for them in the Community Shield and Europa League games.
