Lingard close to United contract renewal

Manchester United are reportedly preparing discussions over a new long-term contract with club graduate Jesse Lingard.

The England international only penned a four-year deal last year but the club appear keen on committing him to a new long-term contract.

According to Metro, the United hierarchy consider Lingard as a key player for the club going forward and they are prepared to review his contract in the next couple of months.

It is added that an extension could be finalised by the start of 2019 and this would witness him earn a steady rise on his current £100,000-a-week package.

Lingard, who is presently on the sidelines with a groin problem, has contributed 24 goals and 15 assists for the Red Devils in 137 appearances across all competitions.

Aside from Lingard, the club are also looking into long-term contracts for the likes of David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford but the renewals could be delayed amid the uncertainty surrounding Jose Mourinho's future.

United have made an average start to the season with just 13 points registered from their opening eight matches and this has led to question marks regarding Mourinho's long-term future with the club.
