Arsenal director of football discusses Ramsey situation
With Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey heading into the final six months of his Gunners contract, the club appear to have retracted their final offer to the Welsh international and will now let the player leave the club. Ramsey and Arsenal had been close to agreeing terms on a fresh contract.
Newly appointed head of football Raul Sanllehi has revealed his concerns around the Ramsey situation to the Sunday Telegraph, stating the following: "I do believe that a player’s contract should never go to the last year, as a policy.
"Anybody could agree on that. Normally, the contracts of the players are for five years. You need to have a clear idea of what you want to do with that player when he is in the third year, at the latest.
"We don’t take decisions overnight, on a quick reflection. We really go through not only a long period of thinking but also a lot of people are involved. There are no decisions that are left to the last minute. When we reach a decision, it is for a reason."
Ramsey is free to talk to other teams abroad on January 1st and can discuss a move with other Premier League teams next summer, when he can leave Arsenal on a free transfer.
