Mateo Kovacic drops update on his Chelsea future
On-loan Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic has admitted that it is too early to discuss the probability of remaining at Chelsea on a long-term basis.
The 24-year-old made the switch to the Blues from Real Madrid on a season-long loan before transfer deadline day last summer in a bid to increase his gametime.
He thereafter started the season as one among the regulars alongside Jorginho and N'Golo Kante in midfield but of late, he has found himself playing second fiddle to Ross Barkley, who has found his feet in the Premier League.
Amidst this, Kovacic has been questioned regarding the possibility of extending his Blues stay beyond the current campaign to which he replied: "It's too early for these questions.
"I am here and very happy. [Playing regularly] is good, I'm a little bit tired. I was not used to playing every three or four games and here it is very tough football."
Kovacic has required some time to adapt to the new style of football in the Premier League and the forthcoming months could be crucial to convincing the Blues whether he can stick with the club for the long-term.
The Croatian has started in six Premier League matches for the Blues this campaign, contributing a solitary assist during the 1-1 draw versus Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
