Manchester United set to agree three-year deal with Spanish midfielder

Mata set for United contract extension

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to reward midfielder Juan Mata with a new three-year contract following his promising form during the ongoing campaign.

The Spain international has been with the Red Devils since the winter of 2014 and over the past four-and-a-half years, he has racked exactly 200 appearances for the club across all competitions.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils are planning to award the midfielder with a fresh three-year contract with his existing deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.

United have generally been reluctant to offer more than 12-month deals for players aged above 30 but Jose Mourinho is understood to be pushing through the agreement owing to Mata's importance on and off the field.

The former Chelsea star has contributed three goals and one assist for United this campaign with the most recent one coming in the surprise Champions League comeback triumph over Juventus earlier in the month.
