Morata close to Atleti switch

Atletico Madrid could reportedly finalise the signing of Alvaro Morata from Chelsea once the Blues reach an agreement to pursue Juventus' Gonzalo Higuain.

The Spain international was left out of the Blues' squad for the third game running on Saturday where the team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of London rivals Arsenal.

According to Marca, the striker has now been allowed to return to his home country where he has already begun holding discussions with Atleti regarding a contract package.

It is added that the marksman will join the Europa League holders on an initial loan move, once the Blues confirm the recruitment of Higuain from Juventus on a similar kind of deal.

Chelsea were initially keen on acquiring the services of Morata on a permanent basis but they seem to have accepted the temporary agreement after Atleti included the obligation to buy for £53m next summer.

Atleti are currently assessing the positions of both Gelson Martins and Nikola Kalinic and reports indicate that the duo could be offloaded in the next six months to balance their financial books.
