Jerome Boateng on Manchester United's transfer list
Manchester United have seen a big depression when it comes to their defence. They have gone from the legends Vidic and Ferdinand to failure Eric Bailey and Phil Jones. It's been a long time since United signed a quality centre back. Come next summer the current situation may change. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is closing in on a permanent appointment and has started to look on transfers for next season.
The defence is the area of priority and United need to sign a quality, big name centre back. Mourinho in the past tried to sign Harry Maguire, Diego Godin but none of the attempts materialized into transfers.
Solskjaer is said to be keen on Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng. Boateng has been a veteran for Bayern and proved time and time why is he one of the top rated centre backs in Europe. The cherry on the cake is that Boateng is familiar with Premier League football as he has spent time at Manchester City in 2010.
Boateng fits in Solskjaer's plans and could be easily trusted with the job of marshalling the defence. But Boateng's signature won't come easy . He could command a fee as high as €60 million. A slightly costly investment considering he is 30 years old.
Manchester United need a centre back at any cost and despite Boateng being an expensive option, United should go on and buy him.
