Chelsea boss speaks on Olivier Giroud's future
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has indicated that Olivier Giroud won't be parting ways with the club during this summer's transfer window.
The Frenchman recently expressed his discontent playing in the second fiddle role and stated that he could pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere in the summer.
However, speaking in a press conference, Sarri has dismissed the possibility of Giroud leaving the club as they are prepared to trigger a 12-month extension clause available.
"He is sure, because the club has an option for another year, another season. I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option, So he will remain," he told Sky Sports News.
Giroud has occasionally started Premier League games for Chelsea since the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain in January and this has caused frustration for the former Arsenal man.
Still, he continues to remain a quality option for the Blues off the bench when required and Sarri appears confident that Giroud's contract will be extended for the forthcoming season at the least.
