Chelsea to extend contract of World Cup winner?
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to trigger the one-year extension clause available on the contract of Olivier Giroud amid the ongoing transfer ban sanctioned by FIFA.
The west London giants are currently under a two-window transfer embargo but they are likely to appeal over the decision through the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Amidst this, the club are intent on keeping hold of the existing players in their squad and Telefoot claims that the contract of Giroud is likely to be extended beyond the summer.
The World Cup winner has expressed his disappointment over the limited gametime in the Premier League but he could be forced to remain with the club next term, given the presence of a 12-month option on his contract.
The Frenchman has been the regular choice for the Europa League this season, where he has been the highest scorer, but it remains to be seen whether he would be picked to start the final against Arsenal.
