Germany star rejected Manchester United to join Borussia Dortmund?

Manchester United are said to have failed with an approach to sign Mats Hummels prior to him re-joining Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old was transfer-listed by the German champions at the end of the recent campaign and much to the surprise of a few, he made the return to Dortmund.

According to Bild, United were willing to offer a more lucrative deal for the Germany international but the defender is said to have snubbed the advances owing to the club's failure to qualify for next season's Champions League.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be keen on signing a new central defender this summer but the club may not necessarily spend big with a transfer budget of around £100m for the summer.

As such, Ole may have to part ways with some of the existing first-team players to boost the budget and it is suggested that Paul Pogba could be one of those heading through the exit door.
