Stones on cusp of new contract

England and Manchester City centre-back John Stones looks set to sign a new contract with the club, having agreed terms alongside his agent this week. The defender, who has amassed an impressive haul of trophies since his arrival at the club, will put pen to paper on a five year extension to his current deal.

The domestic treble winning defender has decided that he will extend his stay at the Cityzens and Pep Guardiola will be delighted to have secured Stones' future, with rumoured interest from abroad from both Bayern Munich and Juventus.

It is understood that Stones will earn £325,000 per week as per the terms of his new contract with the club and will also become a likely replacement in the first-team for the outgoing Vincent Kompany.

Stones, who made a high-profile defensive error in England's game against Netherlands in the Nations League semi-final, has decided that the logical next step for his development is to stay at his current club and continue to progress under the tutelage of Spanish coach Pep Guardiola.
