Liverpool still in race to sign Nicolas Pepe
Liverpool are amongst the teams in the race to sign Lille's talented striker Nicolas Pepe this summer, with the player's agent confirming that the Anfield side have been in negotiations with the Ligue 1 side's striker. The Champions League winning side are looking to sign a new striker this summer as a top priority.
Having released Daniel Sturridge on a free transfer, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to move quickly to snap up Pepe as a replacement. It is understood that both Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in Pepe, but the striker would prefer a move to Anfield instead of London.
It appears that Liverpool have so far been in conversation with the player's agent.
Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed discussions were ongoing with Liverpool: "I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club.
“Liverpool have players in those positions and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.
“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”
