Emery continues to speak about the importance of keeping Koscielny

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has indicated that Laurent Koscielny continues to remain an important player for the team despite declining to travel with the squad for the pre-season tour.

The Frenchman refused to make the United States trip alongside his teammates earlier last week and reports have since emerged that he wants to head through the exit door.

When quizzed about the same in an interview, Emery refused to talk about the possibility of the defender's departure and stated that the 33-year-old continues to remain an important first-team member.

"He has one year left on his contract. For me as a coach he’s an important player. Now it’s one matter for him and the club. The club and him need to speak, they are speaking about his situation," he told Goal.com.

Koscielny is said to be looking to buy out the final year of his contract with the Gunners but the club are reluctant to accept the proposal, given they have the option of extending his stay for another 12 months.

The north London side are looking for a fee of around £10m for the former Lorient graduate but so far, no clubs have come forward with the package, given his current age and fitness levels.
