Mills urges United to swoop for Cahill

Former England defender Danny Mills has urged Manchester United to pursue the services of Gary Cahill, who is available on a free transfer after his release from Chelsea.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new central defender for the summer and so far, they have failed to find the breakthrough with regards to landing Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Mils said that the Red Devils should pursue the signature of Cahill, who has been a consistent performer over the years for Chelsea.

He added that he would prove a no-brainer signing and he is surprised why the Red Devils have not made an approach to sign the former England international yet.

"It's a no-brainer to take him. He'll just want to play and be a part of it... why aren't Manchester United interested? They're desperate for a centre-half," he told the outlet.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has placed the emphasis on recruiting younger players for the summer and that could be the reason behind the club's reluctance to make an offer to Cahill.

The 33-year-old has been out-of-contract for the past few weeks but reports indicate that he could remain in the Premier League with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace said to hold an interest.
