Manchester United confirm their third signing of the transfer window
Manchester United have completed their third signing of the summer transfer window with defender Harry Maguire joining them from Leicester City.
The England international has penned a six-year deal with the Red Devils after they agreed on a world-record £80m fee for a central defender.
“I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started," he told the club's official website.
United had been desperate to pursue Maguire from the beginning of July, but they could not strike a deal with the Foxes, who were reluctant to reduce their £80m price tag.
Ultimately, the Mancunian giants had to bow to the demands of Brendan Rodgers' side and it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can hit the ground running from the off.
Aside from Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have landed the services of winger Daniel James and right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively this summer.
Manchester United are scheduled to host Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League opener on Sunday and Maguire could make his debut alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence.
