Emery confirms contract talks with duo

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed that the club are in contract talks with front duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Lacazette and Aubameyang contributed a combined 50 goals during the previous campaign and they have continued the bright form by scoring in the recent 2-1 triumph over Burnley.

As such, Emery is aware of the importance of the pair and he has now confirmed that talks are underway regarding contract extensions for the first-team stars.

"They are very important players and their contracts need to be in the same balance," Emery was quoted as saying by Goal. "It's one circumstance, one issue now, that the club is working on. Edu is here for that reason."

Lacazette, who scored the opening goal against Burnley this afternoon, has three years remaining on his contract and the club are hoping to extend his stay for another 12 months.

The same remains the case for Aubameyang, whose current deal lasts until the summer of 2021. The Gabon international has scored in back-to-back games for Arsenal to begin the season.
