Chelsea to replace Azpilicueta in January?

Chelsea could pursue an experienced right-back to replace Cesar Azpilicueta, should they manage to overcome their transfer ban at the turn of the year.

The Blues are presently restricted from signing new players until the summer of 2020 but they are hopeful of shortening the embargo through the appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

According to Football.London, the west London giants are optimistic that they will nullify the ban in the New Year and they have already highlighted the same to a number of agents across Europe.

It is added that Azpilicueta's position has come under scrutiny following the average run of form this season and reports suggest that the club are looking for a potential replacement in January.

Paris Saint-Germain's Thomas Meunier and Barcelona's Sergi Roberto have been earmarked as potential contenders to take up the right-back spot from Azpilicueta, who has been culpable for the majority of the goals conceded by the Blues this season.

Chelsea have a back-up option in the form of Reece James in their ranks but the youngster has yet to make his debut for the club. He has just returned to training following an ankle problem.
