Liverpool respond to Virgil van Dijk contract speculation

Liverpool hold no plans to extend Van Dijk's deal

Liverpool have reportedly indicated that they have no plans of opening contract negotiations with defender Virgil van Dijk contrary to the reports in the British press.

The Dutchman has been a revelation for the Reds since his move from Southampton in January 2018 and he helped the club secure the Champions League crown last term while ending a seven-year wait for a trophy.

Of late, there has been the speculation that Van Dijk could be rewarded with a £75,000 increase on his current £125,000-a-week wages but that certainly does not appear the case, according to The Liverpool Echo.

It is added that the Merseyside outfit have no imminent plans of extending the stay of the Netherlands international, who is contracted to the club until the summer of 2023.

Liverpool have made the perfect start to the season with four league wins on the bounce. They have the opportunity to register a fifth-straight triumph when they entertain Newcastle United at Anfield this weekend.
