Robin van Persie sends message to Paul Pogba
Former Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin van Persie has said that Paul Pogba needs to settle into a position with the Red Devils, where he can contribute regularly towards the team's attacking display.
The France international has been regularly swapped in the different midfield positions at United and he recently played as the holding midfielder during the 1-1 league draw against Arsenal.
Speaking on Optus Sport, Van Persie said that it is essential for Pogba to know his favourite position and he would personally prefer the 26-year-old playing in the number 8 role.
"I do think it’s important for Pogba himself [to know his position], because he’s a world-class player. In my opinion he has it all – he can give assists, he can dribble, he’s strong, he’s fast, he can score. I would play him not as a defensive midfielder and not as a No. 10 but in between, so a No. 8," he said.
Pogba started the season on a bright note with two assists in the 4-0 drubbing of Chelsea but he has since failed to contribute on an attacking point of view and was recently hampered by an ankle problem.
Manchester United are scheduled to face AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night and Pogba may be benched for the game, given he was struggling with a swollen ankle before the Gunners clash.
